New look for CBD car guards
Car guards who work on the streets of the Edenvale CBD are well-known by residents and business owners in the area.
Car guards working in the Edenvale CBD not only have a new look but they also now have a new mission statement.
The Edenvale SAPS’ Social Crime Prevention Unit joined hands with the Edenvale City Improvement District (ECID) to issue the car guards with bright safety bibs and sun hats.
The initiative formed part of a long-awaited community outreach project.
The guards were also given whistles as a means to alert each other and community members of any trouble.
The car guards who work on the streets of the Edenvale CBD are well-known by residents and business owners in the area.
The idea behind the initiative is to extend a helping hand to the guards by encouraging them to grow both personally and professionally.
The supplied kit was issued to the guards who willingly came forward to be part of crime fighting initiatives in the Edenvale CBD.
To date, 18 car guards joined the campaign and there are other applications pending.
While the car guards are not directly linked to the Edenvale CID, they form a vital part of the inner workings of the CBD.
The ECID hopes to engage in future projects such as training programmes with the car guards.
Community members are encouraged to submit compliments or complaints by using the personally issued numbers on the car guards’ vests to manager@edenvalecid.co.za.
