The St Benedict’s College matric class of 2017 produced some pleasing results in the 2017 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations of the Independent Examinations Board (IEB).
The boys excelled not only academically but also on the sports field and in the cultural sphere.
One hundred and eighteen boys sat the NSC examinations.

The school achieved a 100 per cent matric pass rate for the 43rd consecutive year.
The learners achieved a 96.6 per cent university entrance (bachelor’s degree) pass rate and 100 per cent of the boys qualified for tertiary studies.

They exceeded the IEB national subject averages in 11 subjects, and attained overall averages of 70 per cent or more in 12 subjects.
In IT, 20 boys achieved an average of 87 per cent with 16 distinctions.
A maths average of 74.67 per cent with 33 distinctions was achieved by 91 boys.

The boys also achieved a science average of 69.71 per cent with 16 distinctions from 69 learners.
Learner Jason Teixeira made it onto the IEB Commendable Achievers list. He was named within the top five percent of IEB learners in five subjects and scored 80 per cent or more for life orientation.
Jason Teixeira and Alexander Francis each obtained eight distinctions.
Jason achieved a 92 per cent average while Alexander achieved an 85.6 per cent average.

Three candidates obtained seven distinctions.
Diego Alves achieved an 86.1 per cent average, Gianfranco Cantinella an 86.1 per cent average, and Liam McGregor an 85.9 per cent average.

Pedro Nogueira, Luke Nicholas, Kyle Grimsley, Daniel Ouma and Roberto Coelho each obtained six distinctions.
