The Johannesburg SAPS East Cluster has issued a warning to residents to be vigilant at all times.
This follows a spate of house robberies in the area.
Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Captain Richard Munyai said there has been a wave of house robberies in Parkview, Bez Valley, Kensington and surrounds.
Residents are urged to:
• Always be aware of people they don’t know moving through the streets.
• Vet their employees, especially domestic staff. Know who is employed in your house, where they come from and who their next of kin are.
• Know all police station contact numbers, such as the client service centre and sector vehicle number.
• Install security gates and burglar bars around your house.
• Do not open you home for strangers and make sure all family members have keys and remotes to get into your home.
• Have panic buttons connected to security providers and make sure to create street contact groups for emergencies.
• Establish street committees.
• Report suspicious looking people walking or driving along the streets.
• Elderly residents can inform the SAPS where they stay in order for officers to stop around regularly.
