Dead birds worry Edenvale woman
"I know that birds die, but it is suspicious that three dead birds are lying together."
Three dead Indian myna birds have Edenvale resident Cindy Arendse concerned.

The birds, which Arendse believes were poisoned, were found on February 8.

She found the birds in Fourth Avenue while walking her dog.

“I was very upset. I know that birds die, but it is suspicious that three dead birds are lying together,” said Arendse.
“Why would three birds just die at the same time in the same place?”
As a bird lover, Arendse is concerned for the well-being of Edenvale’s birdlife.
“The Avenues have such a variety of birdlife,” said Arendse.
“If people are killing birds on purpose it would be sad.”
Last year the NEWS reported on several birds which had been killed.
The birds the NEWS reported on were shot with pellet and paintball guns.
In her time living in the Avenues, Arendse has seen various bird species.
Some of her sightings include owls, black-collared barbets and dikkops.
Following Arendse’s findings, the NEWS contacted the Edenvale SPCA.
Inspector Jade Nel of Edenvale SPCA said the SPCA has not received reports of poisoned birds recently.
She said because avian influenza, type H5N8, was found in the surrounding areas, some birds in Edenvale may have contracted it.
“If residents do find dead birds and are suspicious, they should collect the bodies and take them to a vet,” said Nel.
“The vets will be able to determine if the birds were poisoned or not.”
