Health event held at Denver Men’s hostel

JOBURG – Many people tested to know the status of their health.

The City of Joburg Health Department and the Malvern Clinic’s health promoter held a public health event at the Denver Men’s hostel recently.

The purpose of the event was to give residents in the hostel, and surrounding areas, a chance to be tested for Sexual Transmitted Infections (STI), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), prostate cancer, high blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol and Tuberculosis (TB).

The day included access to mobile clinics which were manned by Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) staff.

Chairperson of Malvern Clinic committee Mike Spadino said he was happy with the positive response which he received from residents.

“Residents came out in numbers to support the event. Many people were tested to know the status of their health,” he said.

Residents were also educated about their health through various pamphlets which were distributed on the day.

The pamphlets contained information on cancer, TB, HIV and other diseases.
