In recent weeks the Edenvale SAPS conducted numerous crime prevention and visible policing operations throughout the area.
On April 19 the Edenvale Police Station held a combined visible policing operation with other police stations in Ekurhuleni’s North Cluster and the EMPD.
The operation was conducted along Homestead Road.
Captain Jean Olckers, spokesperson of the Edenvale Police Station said during the operation police officers stopped motorists and searched their vehicles.
He said on the same day three suspects were arrested for business burglary, possession of stolen property and shoplifting.
The arrests were made separate of the operation.
A day after the visible policing operation, police officers from the SAPS Mounted Unit were seen riding their horses through the community.
Olckers said the mounted unit was asked to assist Edenvale SAPS to prevent residential burglaries, the theft of motor vehicles and theft out of motor vehicles.
The mounted unit conducted patrols in the Edenvale CBD, the Avenues and at the Stoneridge Shopping Centre.
“Officers on horseback can look over walls of residential properties to see if any suspects are in the property,” said Olckers.
“In parking lots, the mounted officers can also see if any suspects are tampering with cars.”
