“Clr Victor Penning seconded the motion and it received overwhelming support.”
Maharaj said enhancing the mobility of pensioners and persons with disabilities would improve their access to basic services and economic opportunities.
“He said it will also improve their overall well-being in Johannesburg. He is pleading with the transport sector and other stakeholders to partner with the CoJ to roll out free off-peak transportation for pensioners and people with disabilities,” said da Gama.
The member of the mayoral committee responsible for transport, MMC Nonhlanhla Makhuba, amended the motion and recommended that council avail a budget for the implementation of the proposal.
