Bedford Gardens celebrates Nurses Day
Fourie said this day is a celebration and acknowledgment of their profession.

World International Nurses Day was on May 11 and the Bedford Gardens Hospital went all out to celebrate their nurses.
“Our theme for International Nurses Day this year focused on empowering and supporting nurses in meeting 21st-century challenges and recognising that nurses are at the heart of our country’s efforts to provide health for all,” said Jacques de Klerk, Bedford Gardens Hospital manager.

First on the Nurses Day agenda was an opening by a choir with resident nurses who sang and danced in celebration of the day.
Kubashnee Naidoo, pharmacy manager, said that every day as nurses come to work, they strive to be champions.
Head matron Leticia Fourie conveyed to everyone what Nurses Day was about and the importance thereof.
“We want to thank nurses for their hard work throughout the year,” said Fourie.

She proceeded to light a candle and asked the nurses to repeat the Nurses Pledge.
Fourie said the day was a celebration and acknowledgment of their profession.
She said the pledge was to remind nurses about the oath they took.
Fourie has been a nurse for over 24 years.
She said many people do not know the difficulties that nursing staff have to handle, but that they do it all with a smile.
