Charity certainly begins at home
“Their stories touched us, it was amazing to see how upbeat some of them were,”
Edenvale Round Table recently embarked on three community projects to assist those less fortunate.
The organisation provided a wheelchair to a child in need, collected non-perishable food and distributed food donations among the homeless in and around Edenvale on May 26.

The three projects were held in the morning, afternoon and evening of May 26.
David Costine of Edenvale Round Table said the group provided a wheelchair to local resident Rylan Kitching after they were told he had outgrown his walker.

David said the group donated the walker to Rylan four years ago.
“Within 48 hours of hearing the news, the group organised and donated a wheelchair to Rylan,” said David.
After Edenvale Round Table donated the wheelchair, the group stood at the entrance to the Meadowdale Checkers and collected donations of food through their R1 campaign.

“We gave shoppers R1 and asked them to spend it on non-perishable food, which they then handed back to Round Table,” said David.
“Some shoppers spent more than R200 on food for the needy.”
Approximately R15 000 worth of food was collected.
Once the food had been collected, Edenvale Round Table drove around Edenvale and donated to those sleeping on the street.

“Their stories touched us; it was amazing to see how upbeat some of them were,” said David.
David thanked Meadowdale Mall Management, Checkers and the customers for their support.
Edenvale Round Table is open to men between the ages of 18 and 40.
