Sneakers become art at Victoria Yards in Bertrams

Sneakers4Change will hold an art exhibition on June 30 at Victoria Yards in Bertrams.
The exhibition will showcase pieces of art made from old sneakers.

“Art is a universal language that is understood and loved by many. Sneakers are a form of language where people use them to communicate their style.
“As Sneakers4Change we collect and donate footwear to the less fortunate. We decided, with sneakers that are in no condition to give to the next person, to create pieces of art,” said Sibusiso Zulu, founder of Sneakers4Change.

Sneakers4Change aims to raise awareness about the lack of footwear.
The exhibition will showcase the influences the sneaker culture has on society and economically while collecting sneakers for the less fortunate.
People who attend the event are asked to donate a pair of sneakers or footwear.
“One of the main aims of the organisation is to inspire and provide platforms for young creatives hence we working with six ground-level artists,” said Zulu.
Artists who will be showcasing their work are Nkosinathi Mbatha, Hector Xquizified Mgiba, Shalom Ndlovu, Thato Ntsane, Jean Khoza and Ziggy Canvas.
The exhibition will also be the launch of their winter #NoColdFeet campaign.
The aim of the campaign is to collect footwear for underprivileged children.
“Through this campaign, we want to push young people to be brave, fearless and ignite the spirit of not letting circumstances stop them achieving their goals,” explained Zulu.
The exhibition will be from 2pm to 5pm.
