Making Mandela Day special for the elderly in Edenvale

“We need to show our appreciation for the elderly.”

Today the elderly of Edenvale were treated to tea and a light meal served by officers from Edenvale SAPS and community members.

Today’s Nelson Mandela Day project was organised by the head of the Edenvale SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit Sgt Jacob Mashile in partnership with De Backery.

Mashile said members of Edenvale’s Youth Desk and Community Police Forum were assisting.

“We celebrated 67 minutes for Mandela Day, assisting the elderly and bringing them joy,” he said.

“We need to show our appreciation for the elderly.”

“We are celebrating the life and legacy of Mandela together.”

Mashile said inspiration to host this event stemmed from the advice of former Edenvale SAPS station commander Brig Steven Moodley.

“Moodley would often remind us to care for our elderly. It left an impression on me.”
