The arrest of employees at a testing station in Germiston today follows the arrest of other officials in Bedfordview and Alberton yesterday.
In a statement issued this afternoon by the Gauteng Department of Community Safety it is stated that officers working closely with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) and the SAPS arrested the four officials in Germiston.
“The sting operation started yesterday and led to the arrest of five officials from the Bedfordview and Alberton testing stations respectively,” said MEC Nkosi-Malobane.
“After a thorough and wide ranging investigation which started last year, authorities discovered that the suspects have been involved in dumping outstanding traffic violation fines to deceased people to be able to process fraudulent documents. The crime committed at various testing stations in the country is alleged to amount to R80-million,” Malobane said.
