Heritage hike in Melville

Those wanting to attend the event are asked to park in the upper parking area at Marks Park situated on Judith Road in Emmarentia.

There will be a three-koppie hike of up to 10km through the Melville Koppies Nature Reserve and Heritage Site on Heritage Day, September 24.

The walk is expected to take around three hours.

The official Heritage Site plaque being placed above the Stone-Age cave on Melville Koppies West.

Those wanting to attend the event are asked to park in the upper parking area at Marks Park situated on Judith Road in Emmarentia.

The hike will start at 8.30am and will cost R60 for adults and R40 for children.

All monies are used to maintain the koppies.

Heritage Day hikers, after visiting the Stone-Age cave, are treated to this rock-breaking fig (Ficus ingens) in its fiery-red spring foliage.

Hikers need to be fit with good balance as paths are rocky and steep.

Children must be over six years old and no dogs will be allowed.
