On February 24 the club held a fund-raiser for the association in partnership with SA Bowls where the club raised approximately R8 000.

“Everything we raised on the day is going to Cansa, nothing is going to the club,” said George Wilkinson of the club.

Participants of the day were encouraged to dress up and play bowls in the clothes of the opposite gender.

“I have organised a few events over the years and found that people have more fun if they can get dressed up,” said George.

Attendees played friendly games of normal bowls and games of crackerjack.

Although the day was a friendly event, medals and prizes sponsored by SA Bowls were won throughout the day.

“The event was enjoyed by all who attended,” said George.

Some of those who participated on the day included members of the Dickie Fritz Memorable Order of Tin Hats Shellhole.

“The club and the shellhole often support each other and attend each other’s events.”

In addition to raising money on the 24th, R2 000 was raised by the club at the start of February when it hosted a potjiekos competition.
