Penny uses her personal struggles to drive lesson home

“Don’t forget, we are fighting a war. We are the army against criminals,” said Steyn.

In January, Penny Steyn experienced a burglary at her home and has thus been very emotional, but has since put all her emotions into giving the Bedfordview Domestic Watch the best advice after her ordeal.

The Domestic Watch topic for February was about gates and worked well with the lesson, as Steyn always speaks about her experiences with crime and can therefore give accurate tips.

Still struggling in terms of her distress, Steyn pushed through giving members details on the best padlocks, alarms, window alarms and tips when it comes to house burglary prevention.

She also shared her thoughts on the burglary.

“Don’t forget, we are fighting a war. We are the army against criminals,” said Steyn.

“I also took responsibility for the incident and believe we expose ourselves to the wrong people.

“We are so open with what we do that criminals are able to spy on us and then we act so surprised when something like this happens to us,” said Steyn.

Steyn also expressed her thanks for the ongoing support from the members of the watch, who give her the motivation to continue doing what she does.

“Your first option is to make sure you never become a victim,” said Steyn.

Domestic Watch is held at the Bedfordview Methodist Church, on the last Wednesday of each month at 2pm.
