Holy Rosary High School brought their A game when they participated in the annual Wits University Integrated Experience in Science, Engineering and Commerce (WIESCE).
Competing against 20 others schools, participants were given the scenario of an aircraft crashing over the Pacific Ocean.
They had to present a preliminary investigation containing the possible reasons why the aircraft crashed and future preventative and safety measures.
The only information the learners received was a transcription of recordings between the aircraft and control towers and a few other details.
The Holy Rosary team, comprised of Grade 11 learners Courtney Laros, Oshai Naidoo, Tia Poovan, Daniella Johnston and Simone de Castro, achieved 98 per cent for their presentation and won the competition.
Each winner received a laptop and a helicopter ride over Johannesburg.
They will present their investigation findings at the Science Technology, Economics and Maths (STEM) conference in August.
