Jeppe SAPS appealed to the community for information that may lead to the arrest of several suspects linked to the alleged torching of trucks in the City Deep area on May 27.
“It is alleged two truck drivers were inside their trucks at the Kings Rest Container Depot in City Deep when they saw about five men approaching the stationary trucks.
“The men were carrying what appeared to be sticks and containers.
“They began shouting and proceeded to pour petrol over the trucks. The two drivers jumped out and ran for their lives. After setting the trucks alight, the suspects fled the scene,” said Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Capt Richard Munyayi.
He said a total of seven trucks were set alight.
“The trucks belonged to two companies, SKR Freight in Durban and Fransend Logistics in Benoni. The damage to the trucks is estimated at about R6-million,” said Munyayi.
“A case of malicious damage to property has been opened and we appeal to anyone who might have information to contact Jeppe SAPS on 011 624 6000.”
