#BedfordviewProtest – SAPS use rubber bullets to disperse early morning protesters

Protesters who gathered outside the Bedfordview Police Station this morning face charges of public violence.

Protesters who gathered outside the Bedfordview Police Station this morning face charges of public violence.

According to Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, Gauteng SAPS Provincial spokesperson, the protesters demanded the release of a man (30) arrested for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm last night.

It is believed that the man arrested was part of a group which allegedly assaulted a man accused of cable theft in Elandsfontein.

Dlamini said a case of public violence was opened after the protesting community members arrived at police station and demanded the arrested man be released.

“Community members blocked the entrance to the police station and officers fired rubber bullets to disperse them,” Dlamini said.

He added that more arrests may follow if the assault victim is able to identify those responsible.
