LATEST: Off-duty Cleveland police constable arrest on DUI charges

"Edenvale SAPS has a zero-tolerance approach to drinking and driving."

An off duty constable from Cleaveland SAPS was arrested in Edenvale on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Jacob Mashile, said the constable was driving in sector 1, early this morning, September 1, when he was spotted by Edenvale SAPS officers.

“The officers could smell alcohol when they stopped the vehicle and breathalysed the off-duty officer,” said Mashile.

 

He said following this, the man was taken to a nearby hospital where his blood was taken.

“All necessary procedures were followed and the constable was detained at Edenvale Police Station,” said Mashile.

“No one is above the law. Edenvale SAPS has a zero-tolerance stance towards drinking and driving.”
