For the second Sunday in a row, residents of Malvern are experiencing an outbreak of violence.

Cleveland SAPS spokesperson Capt Johan Jordaan confirmed that unrest has again erupted in the area.

JMPD’s Chief of Police David Tembe said Jules Street in Malvern, Cleveland and Jeppestown must be avoided.

Tembe added that four suspects had been arrested so far for public violence and looting. “Members of the public, especially motorists, are advised to avoid the area.”

This follows unrest in Jeppestown on Sunday afternoon when hostel residents walked out on IFP former leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi when he made a plea for calm.

Residents have taken to social media expressing concern about safety.
Reports are that buildings were also set alight.
