Malvern community now focused on rebuilding
"The community is coming together and working together in looking after community interest."
The September 2 protest has left a trail of damage in Jules Street, Malvern.
Businesses have been burnt down with no certainty of ever recovering or being reopened.
Residents are still in shock and fear for their safety because they are not sure if the protests are finished or will continue later on.
As people and some businesses in Jules Street try to recover and get back to their normal lives, the general feeling of fear lingers on.
Malvern Care Team spokesperson Mike Spadino said the community is supporting each through this difficult time.
“This has created a sense of despair among many business owners as some have lost all means of livelihood, others have accepted it and moved on. One thing this tragedy has done is bring the community together,” said Spadino.
He said the community is now trying to rebuild.
“The community is coming together and working together in looking after community interest,” said Spadino.
Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Capt Richard Munyayi said they remain vigilant.
