Join community conversations
The Makers Valley neighbourhood is located east of the Johannesburg inner city and stretches from New Doornfontein to Bezuidenhout Valley.

Makers Valley Partnership has invited the Makers Valley neighbourhood surrounding areas to its second Community Conversation session.
The event will take place on January 18 from 11am to 1pm at the Boys and Girls Club in Bertrams.
The Makers Valley neighbourhood is located east of the Johannesburg inner city and stretches from New Doornfontein to Bezuidenhout Valley.
The neighbourhood is constituted of Bertrams, Judith’s Paarl, Troyeville and Lorentzville.
The main node in the area is Ellis Park and the Maboneng precinct.
The locality of the neighbourhood has promoted a vision of creating a heart of social and creative enterprise in the City of Johannesburg area.
The vision seeks to provide spaces for creatives which they use to produce their work, while ensuring that the community benefits from the developments occurring in the area.
The Johannesburg inner city has experienced alarming rates of urban decay and this has had a negative impact on the development of the neighbourhood.
The establishment of the Johannesburg Inner City Partnership, as a result, seeks to address this by cleaning the inner city to make it attractive to business and residents.
The proposed vision of the area builds on these attributes to ensure that the primary activities envisioned for the neighbourhood may contribute to revitalising it and in the long run, it may benefit future creatives and residents.
Projects that have been proposed to contribute to the creation of sustainable livelihoods include Victoria Yards Commons, Changemaker Children, Water for the Future, Jukskei River Project, Celebrating our Voices Project, Community Safe and Clean Programme and Edible Streets.
All these projects have worked towards improving the neighbourhood.
The Makers Valley Community Conversations are about bringing the community together to discuss these aspects and get them involved in helping create this vision.
It is hoped that people coming to the session may bring their input as to how they would like this vision to be achieved and highlight any challenges which may hinder the development of this idea.
