Joint operation on Modderfontein Road

205 vehicles were searched.

All intersections on Modderfontein Road P91 and Centenary Road were barricaded on January 17.

Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso, communications officer of Sebenza SAPS, said the purpose of the roadblock was to minimise crime in Sebenza.

“JMPD and EMPD issued ten fines, 205 vehicles were searched and 351 people were also searched during the operation.”

Tsotsotso said no arrests were made.

“Thirty-one SAPS and Basecamp Unit members conducted the joint operation with JMPD and EMPD officers. “Their aim was to recover illegal firearms, drugs, stolen property and vehicles.”

The officer urged the community to stop buying stolen goods.

“Criminals steal because they know they have buyers, this creates more crime. We need the community to work with us because we cannot fight crime alone.”

Tsotsotso advised that illegal and suspicious activity must be reported to the nearest police station or call 10111.
