Subconscious emotions explored

The speaker of the next W2000 talk will be Clare-Rose Julius, an independent publisher.

Potential and experienced writers enjoyed learning how to ‘break free’ from the boundaries of formula poetry and explore what they deemed ‘true creative writing’ at a Writers 2000 (W2000) workshop from the morning speaker, Anthea Pretorius. Peter James-Smith was the afternoon speaker.

Anthea also touched on haiku in addition to traditional poetry writing.

She has been published in various poetry and haiku anthologies, including the 2017 Avbob National Poetry Competition, and introduced the writing group to Blackout Poetry.

“Even sceptics found that their subconscious emotions were revealed in words they randomly chose that became poetry.”

Peter is a journalist and former radio presenter for both the BBC and the SABC.

He gave an amusing and interesting talk about his work life and writing experiences.

The audience got a short introduction to media writing as well.

Peter James-Smith, broadcast journalist, was the afternoon presenter at a W2000 workshop.

Peter encouraged aspiring writers to look for interesting and unusual stories in the lives of people who have strived to make a difference, and to do their homework by taking the trouble to interview people in person.

Anthea agreed to judge the poetry and haiku entries at this year’s Writers 2000 Annual Writing Competition.

Other categories of this competition include a fiction horror story, a non-fiction story about any place and ‘life’s like that’, funny, yet moving life experiences.
