Expecting parents receive some tips
“The idea behind the event is to empower moms and teach them what questions they need to ask and what to look out for.”
Expecting parents paid a visit to Life Bedford Gardens Hospital when they attended a pregnancy education open day.
Open to members of the public the event saw specialists from the hospital share information with moms and dads to be.

The free annual event was held on Saturday 22 at the hospital.
Nursing manager Anthea Myers said Life hospitals take pregnancy very seriously and that the event was held a few days after the end of SA’s pregnancy awareness week, February 10-16.
“The idea behind the event is to empower moms and teach them what questions they need to ask and what to look out for,” said Meyers.
Marketing manager of the hospital Janene de Beer said audience members received advice from a gynaecologist, paediatrician and lactation specialist.

Other topics discussed included:
• Caesarean delivery vs natural birth.
• The immediate care of a new-born.
• Baby safety.
• Formula vs breastfeeding.
Expecting dads were put to the test when they competed in a short activity where they needed to change and replace a dirty (peanut butter filled) nappy.

Mothers-to-be were also rewarded for paying attention during the event as they received a prize after answering questions asked by the hosts.
