Former Queens High learner selected to represent SA in NY

“I was not sure if they will be happy with my decision because all I wanted was to make my family proud."

Ntabiso Mukwebu discovered his ability to rap, produce music, model, and act at the age of 21.

Biso, now 25, is a well-rounded artist who still wants to learn and achieve more as an industry creative.

“I was an A student from Queens High School and pursued my studies at Wits University in chemical engineering.”

Biso said all he wanted to do was make his family proud.

“While I was at school my brother produced music and he put me on one of his sound tracks. I didn’t know anything about it, but I wanted to try it out. There was a song that he wanted me to rap on and the response from the audience was impressive.”

It was at this moment he decided to join the music scene.

“I was not sure if my parents would be happy with my decision, but luckily they were very supportive. All they wanted was what’s best for my future,” said Biso.

He dropped out of university to follow his dream.

Since then, Biso has immersed himself in the world of the arts.

One of his earlier songs, Izinja ZeGame, made it to the top five of the KFC Soundbite National Chart and stayed there for over five weeks in 2017.

“It earned me an interview with online publications were I decided to start my clothing brand which sold across South Africa. I also got featured on a Cell C advert in 2018 with actress Thembsie Matu, and Welile Nzuza,” he said.

Biso went on to release his first music video in 2019, which was subsequently playlisted by Channel O.

He also showcased his acting skills on a Cell C advert he did last year, and took it upon himself to audition for International Modeling and Talent Association (IMTA), and was selected to represent South Africa at the IMTA International Talent Convention that will be held in New York in July of 2020.

The panel of judges that picked him included Rhavynn Drummer, an independent casting director for Tyler Perry Studios and Nate Butler, the junior casting director for The Steve Harvey Show.

“When I got the news from IMTA it was overwhelming. I could not believe I was heading to the USA. I believe in my craft and want to take it further. I will continue to make my family proud and also the entire country,” he said.
