EnviroWise programme to keep community healthy

An agent of change is a young person who is actively involved in making a positive contribution to an individual, community or at the national level.”

Founder of Why Not Health and Fitness Club (WNHFC) Michael Nonbongozo, from Bez Valley, is actively involved in the community to help fight against obesity, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse and skills shortage in a way that is appealing to them.

“WNHFC assists members of the community to engage in healthy lifestyle choices through exercise, sports and recreational activities.”

He said they encourage young people to become powerful agents of change.

“An agent of change is a young person who is actively involved in making a positive contribution to an individual, community or at the national level.

“Our vision is to improve the quality of life and health of people living in South Africa and to promote social and human development through the production of high-quality applied programmes that address challenges arising from social inequality, violence, poverty and other causes of ill-health and loss of human potential,” he said.

WNHFC’s mission is to strive to be an internationally renowned South African organisation respected for its contribution to community development through healthy lifestyle initiatives.

WNHFC has introduced the EnviroWise programme to assist in uplifting the environmental standards of South African communities.

“The programme allows community members to learn and better understand the meaning of environmental health. It will also help community members to realise the importance of taking care of the environment around them as their number one priority.

“Communities can participate in the EnviroWise programme, such as global warming education, small-scale recycling, small-scale agriculture and water conservation.”

The objectives are to:

• Reduce pollution in the community.

• Reuse and recycle waste materials.

• Buy and use only locally, sustainably sourced and produced products.

• Having a small garden in every home through urban agricultural methods.

• Conservation of natural resources.

• Maintain the natural ecological earth balance so that all living things can survive and thrive in their natural habitat.
