Power in Edenvale expected to be restored by midday

“This caused a massive influx of energy to surge into the system and damaged the Cunningham Road and Beverly Avenue substation,”

A fault at a substation along First Avenue resulted in a large power outage for large portions of Edenvale.

Areas in Edenvale affected include Hurlyvale, Edendale, Eastleigh, Dunvegan and Edenglen.

Ward 18 Clr Heather Hart, said the incident occurred last night (October 29) when an isolator at the substation, near Sneecch Street, was damaged.

“This caused a massive influx of energy to surge into the system and damaged the Cunningham Road and Beverly Avenue substation,” said Hart.

She said municipal and Eskom technicians worked throughout the night to try to restore the power.

“It is estimated that power will be restored by midday.”
