Business robbery leads to shootout in Stoneridge

“After robbing the store the suspects, armed with handguns, shot at security officers who were responding to the scene.”

Edenvale SAPS hopes to strengthen its presence and increase its visibility across its precinct following the February 4 Greenstone business robbery and shootout.

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said approximately six armed men robbed a Stoneridge store and made off with an undisclosed amount of valuables and money after a shootout with responding security officers occurred.

Mashile said since the start of lockdown this incident was one of the most serious crimes to have happened in Edenvale.

“After robbing the store the suspects, armed with handguns, shot at security officers who were responding to the scene,” said Mashile.

“The security officers returned fire, there were no injuries.” Mashile said the suspects of unknown age fled in vehicles of unidentified make or model. He said it is unknown which direction the suspects fled.

Mashile urged anyone who may know anything about the crime or the suspects to contact the police on 10111, 08600 10111 or Edenvale Police Station on 011 553 8600.
