Nzuza takes the reins at Edenvale SAPS

“I love my job. I love helping others, there is nothing more satisfying than helping someone else and putting a smile on their face.”

While she fulfils the role and duties of acting station commander at Edenvale Police Station, Col Eunice Nzuza hopes to promote the spirit of ubuntu in Edenvale.

Nzuza, who is no stranger to Edenvale, has served the community for 16 years of her 27-year-long police career and assured the community they are in good hands.

She was appointed acting station commander after Col Sudesh Sookraj was promoted to brigadier and transferred to Thembisa Police Station earlier this year.

Nzuza, who has a passion to help others, said she joined the service in the hopes of creating a safer and better community for all.

The passionate police officer described the job as a calling. “I love my job. I love helping others, there is nothing more satisfying than helping someone else and putting a smile on their face.”

Under her leadership, community members can expect to see officers serving and protecting the community by conducting roadblocks, visible policing, stop-and-search operations, joint operations with other law enforcement agencies, crime prevention operations and social crime prevention operations.

Nzuza urged community members to look out for one another, especially the vulnerable and those living on their own.

“We need to look after one another and protect one another as much as possible,” said Nzuza. “Although the police work with Edenvale CPF and various security companies, community members looking out for one another will assist the police.

“The community needs to stand together, protect and support those in need.” Nzuza said community members can do this by being vigilant, visiting those who live alone and caring for each other.

“If your dog or your neighbour’s dog starts barking don’t just go outside, look through the window and try to see if someone is in your garden.”

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said community members need to report any suspicious activity as soon as possible.

“No matter how many calls we receive about the matter, we will attend to it,” assured Mashile. Nzuza said if community members are not satisfied with the level of service from the police, they can bring it to the station’s attention.

She said complaints can be brought to the attention of complaint’s coordinators Capt Prtipaul or Sgt Mashile.

“They will be addressed as speedily and as swiftly as possible while following the necessary processes.”
