Support your community hero
Whether they were from Greenstone, Modderfontein, Sebenza, Edenvale or Bedfordview, our community members have always had a strong sense of unity and have been ready to assist where it can.

As we continue to adapt to life during the pandemic, readers are reminded they have the opportunity to identify local heroes working in their community.
Over the years, the NEWS has reported on numerous helpful residents who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help those in need.
Whether they were from Greenstone, Modderfontein, Sebenza, Edenvale or Bedfordview, our community members have always had a strong sense of unity and have been ready to assist where it can.
In the hopes of highlighting these unsung heroes, the NEWS and West Pack Lifestyle are allowing readers to nominate members of the community who value and understand the term ubuntu by putting the needs of the community first.

Readers can enter these local heroes for the NEWS/West Pack Lifestyle Hero of the Month competition.
Nominate a person you think is a hero and put them in line to win a R1 000 West Pack Lifestyle voucher to spend as they wish.
Think of the people who are doing good for our community.
It could be the person improving our environment, helping animals or running soup kitchens or even those filling the odd pothole or pick up litter over the weekend.
Don’t forget our public servants, care workers, NPO workers or teachers and business people who have hearts of gold and care for the less fortunate and care about our towns.
The monthly competition has already seen several community members selected as #HeroPack members, so why not nominate someone who’s making a difference?
