Flying Sqaud secures two arrests

The Benoni Flying Squad secured two arrests on Wednesday last week, one of which took place in Edenvale.

Shortly before 20:00 on the day, Flying Squad officers responded to a complaint when a woman was robbed of her personal items and cellphone along Baker Road.

Officers were told the suspect fled in a white Ford Fiesta and were given a registration number.

Together with a local security company, the Fiesta was spotted on Barbara Road and then pulled over in Foundry Road, Isando.

As the driver of the vehicle came to a stop, officers witnessed the suspect throwing two cellphones into the bush.

The cellphones were recovered and the suspect was arrested.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of an unlicensed silver 9mm pistol with the serial number filed off.

Earlier in the day, the same officers were involved in a separate incident and arrested a suspect in Chris Hani, Extension 2, Daveyton for possession of crystal methamphetamine.

The investigation continues in both cases.

The suspects will appear in the local magistrates courts facing charges of robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of drugs.
