Held on May 7, the aim of the market was not only to bring community members together but to raise funds for the beneficiaries of the Tails and Whiskers Charity Shop.
Beneficiaries who had stalls at the market included Edenvale Ferals, Warriors for Africa’s Wildlife and Hellen White – In the Community.
“The market was successful, it had a better turnout than some of the previous markets,” said Sharon Blackwell, one of the founders of the charity store.
“We had wonderful weather and while community members were here, they could purchase some of the Mother’s Day gifts the beneficiaries had on offer or some plants.”

Sharon said on the day the charity shop presented certificates to its supporters who had sterilised their pets through the shop’s teddy bear project.
She explained that the project was aimed at encouraging community members to sterilise their pets.
Sharon said once the sterilisation was completed the community member would receive a certificate and a teddy bear in honour of their pet or their mother.

“It is so important to have pets sterilised and by sterilising one animal you are helping others,” explained Sharon.
She said since the Covid-19 pandemic many community members have fallen on tough times. Sharon highlighted that the project was the charity store’s way of further assisting those in need.
With Father’s Day coming up, Sharon said the charity shop hopes to keep the sterilisation project running.
