Ekurhuleni court sentences cable thief for seven years

The net is closing in on thieves who tamper and damage essential infrastructure in Ekurhuleni.

The Kempton Park Regional Court sentenced Clement Ngwenya from Winnie Mandela to seven years imprisonment on July 26.

Ngwenya was arrested in June 2021 by police after being caught digging a trench along the wall of Safari Club Hotel on Pomona Road where a municipal cable was located.

“The net is closing in on thieves who tamper and damage essential infrastructure in Ekurhuleni.

“City of Ekurhuleni reiterates its stance of zero tolerance on vandalism and tampering with essential infrastructure,” said CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
