Local cyclists called to come forward to make a difference

Reach For A Dream is calling all cyclists to pedal for a purpose by joining its charity team, Dream Riders, proudly sponsored by Old Mutual Insure.

Are you an avid cyclist, looking for a way to make a difference while following your passion?

Join Reach For A Dream’s charity team, Dream Riders, sponsored by Old Mutual Insure, on November 19 during the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg and make a difference in the lives of children facing life-threatening illnesses.

Every year, thousands of people sign up for the 947 Ride Joburg to conquer 97km of the gruelling road race.

Of these riders, hundreds add extra impetus to their efforts by riding for Reach For A Dream, one of South Africa’s longest-running charities with a mission to give hope and joy to children who are facing their biggest battles.

“Each Dream Rider’s commitment to this gruelling race is a testament to their empathy for our dreamers. It’s a beautiful act of solidarity that says, ‘Your fight is our fight, and together, we can conquer anything,’” said Reach For A Dream CEO Julia Sotirianakos.

Dimitri Simitopoulos and Basil Manikas.

According to Thabile Nyaba, chief risk and sustainability officer at Old Mutual Insure, partnering with Reach For A Dream resonates deeply with the company’s values and commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.

“We are proud to partner with Reach for A Dream and support Dream Riders,” says Nyaba. “We are there for our clients during their most challenging moments, oftentimes when having experienced traumatic losses and events.

“We make a meaningful difference by helping them back on their feet.

“It is in this same spirit that we hope to make a difference to the many courageous children going through their darkest moments when battling severe illnesses,” she said.

It costs R1800 to join the Dream Rider’s charity team, after which cyclists will receive a variety of perks such as complimentary Ciovita cycle shirts, durable tog bags complete with cycling socks, casquettes and other goodies.

They will also enjoy a charity start time, exclusive invitations to pre-event meetups and access to the post-race hospitality tent for relaxation.
