Quondam Village celebrates community spirit at traditional braai event
Residents gathered at Quondam Village for a vibrant South African braai, enjoying food, friendship and a shared sense of community.
Manager at Quondam Village Trust, Neeri Stroebel, said the event, where the community gathers to enjoy a traditional South African braai, was also a celebration of community spirit, family, and the changing seasons.
Stroebel defined Braai as a South African term akin to barbecue.

She said it is as much about the social experience as it is about the food. “It’s a time for people to come together, share stories, and create lasting memories.
“At the heart of the braai is the fire, which is carefully tended to ensure the perfect coals for cooking a variety of delicious meats and side dishes,” described Stroebel.
She added that Quondam Village, with its picturesque landscapes and welcoming atmosphere, provided the perfect backdrop for the Easter Monday braai.

The manager further said the event is typically held in the community centre, where long tables are set up under the shade of trees.
Stroebel echoed, “The Quondam Village Easter Monday Braai is a testament to the strength and warmth of the community. It’s a time for old friends to reconnect and for new friendships to form.
“The event is organised by the social and entertainment committee, with everyone pitching in to make it a success. This collective effort embodies the true spirit of ubuntu, a concept of shared humanity and community.”
Beyond the food, the village manager said the Easter Monday braai offers a variety of exciting spot prizes to be won, as well as the yearly Easter Raffle.
“In conclusion, the Easter Monday braai in Quondam Village is more than just a meal; it’s a cherished tradition that brings people together in celebration of life, love, and community.
“Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this event offers a heartwarming glimpse into the vibrant culture and hospitality of Quondam Village,” said Stroebel.
