Suspect arrested for illegal medicine sales at Eastgate Shopping Centre
Bedfordview police arrest suspect for illegally selling medicine after a buyer complains to security personnel that the medicine was not properly packaged.
A suspect was detained at the Bedfordview Police Station for contravening the Medicines and Related Substances Act, 1965 (Act No. 101 of 1965).
This means the selling, possession, or manufacturing of scheduled substances, medical devices, or in vitro diagnostics other than in accordance with the prescribed conditions, read with Section 29(k).

Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Lillian Modiga stated that on April 23, members of the Bedfordview SAPS responded to a complaint at Eastgate Shopping Centre regarding the illegal sale of medicine.

“Security personnel at the mall alerted police after a buyer complained that medicine purchased from an African male in the parking area was not properly packaged,” Sergeant Modiga reported.

She added that the suspect was apprehended by security guards at the scene.
Bedfordview SAPS members attended to the complaint and arrested the male suspect. The medicine was confiscated while the case is under investigation.
