City of Ekurhuleni mayor appoints three new MMCs to strengthen governance

Nkosindiphile Xhakaza has appointed three councillors to complete the mayoral committee of the City of Ekurhuleni. The appointments aim to boost service delivery, oversight and accountability while consolidating leadership across key portfolios.

Three more MMCs have been appointed by the City of Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza on February 25.

Last week, Xhakaza announced his new committee and three posts remained vacant following disputes from Action SA and the EFF.

The city stated that these appointments reinforce its governance capacity by ensuring that all portfolios are fully constituted, enabling accelerated service delivery, strengthened oversight, and enhanced accountability to residents.

The city also said that the appointments also reflect a considered and inclusive process designed to consolidate collective leadership, promote institutional stability, and ensure the effective execution of its developmental mandate.

“This shall further strengthen the Ekurhuleni Government of Local Unity (EGLU), which is anchored on the principle of broad inclusivity of organisations represented in council,” explained the CoE.

The following councillors were appointed as MMCs:

  • Human Settlements: Clr Ngopotse Nsizwa Mekgwe
  • Community Services: Clr Siyabonga Mathews Moloi
  • Economic Infrastructure and Development: Clr Dora Mlambo

Xhakaza has expressed full confidence in the appointed MMCs and has called on them to discharge their responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to serve the people of the city.
