Spring is in the air

Each season on Melville Koppies Central is different and nothing tells of spring like the fragrance of cheerful spring flowers.
As you enter the forested areas, breathe in the delicate fragrance of the soft, creamy-yellow pompoms of the thorny acacia (vachelia).
Climb up the ridges and you’ll smell the strong scent of the wild apricot’s flowers before you come upon them.
If you visit soon, at the lecture hut you’ll see a tree covered with white blossoms and understand why colonial settlers from England called it a wild pear tree even though its fruit is inedible.
Melville Koppies Central (Nature Reserve and Heritage Site) is open every Sunday only in 2021 from 08:00 to 11:30.
There is no need to pre-book.
Entrance fees are R80 for adults and R40 for children. Season tickets are also available at R500 each.
All income from the sale of tickets is used for maintenance and security of the Koppies, which amount to R22 000.
