Little Eden sets goal to raise R-1.5 million in March campaign

“We aim to generate awareness and support for those who rely on wheelchairs for mobility.”

With the arrival of its seventh annual CEO Wheelchair Campaign, Little Eden Society aims to raise R1.5m
Set against the theme “Ride a Mile in My Wheels”, the campaign will run during March, which is Intellectual Disability Awareness Month.

It will start on March 1 and end on March 31.

Funds raised will be used by the NPO to care for the 300 children and adults living with profound intellectual disability at the society’s two homes.

CEO of the society Xelda Rohrbeck explained that the campaign is a highlight in their calendar as it is the society’s biggest annual fundraiser.

She encouraged donors and sponsors to join hands with them to not only raise awareness but also raise much-needed funds for them.

Xelda pointed out that the cost of each resident at Little Eden is R14 160 per month per resident.

The society needs to raise just over R61m annually to continue giving their residents quality care.

“With 64% of our residents depending on wheelchairs for mobility, the campaign seeks to make a profound and lasting impact on their lives,” Rohrbeck said.

Rohrbeck extended an invitation to all CEOs, business leaders, executors, directors and everyone in corporate to participate in the unique and transformative experience.

“As leaders in the business world, your participation in the campaign sends a powerful message of commitment to social responsibility and inclusivity.”

She said by dedicating one workday to this cause, participants contribute to breaking down barriers and creating a workplace culture that values diversity and understands the unique challenges faced by individuals living with intellectual disability and those who rely on wheelchairs for mobility.

“Join us in making a tangible impact, not only within your organisations but also in shaping a more compassionate and understanding society” Rohrbeck added.

How to participate:

CEOs sign up and spend a day at work or home office in a wheelchair during March and make a financial donation of R55 000 for large companies or R35 000 for SMEs to Little Eden.

Those unable to spend a workday in a wheelchair can support the campaign through a financial donation and advocacy.

CEOs are encouraged to challenge other CEOs to participate in the campaign.

Participants are invited to share their experiences and provide actions and or suggestions on what their organisation can do to be more inclusive of those relying on mobility devices and with profound intellectual disability.
