Follow-up: Edenvale Care Centre funding declined due to outstanding documents

“NPOs need to meet governance compliance, financial compliance, and technical requirements before they can receive funding."

According to the Gauteng Department of Health, Edenvale Care Centre Hospice’s application for funding was not successful because the NPO did not attach required documents during the application.

This information comes after the NPO informed Bedfordview and Edenvale News that funding from the department was cut after its application was unsuccessful.

On March 15 the NPO received a letter, from the department, informing it that its funding application for the provision of palliative care services for the 2024/2027 financial year was unsuccessful.

In its letter to the care centre, the department stated that the organisation did not meet the requirements for NPO funding.

When questioned about how many Ekurhuleni NPOs were unsuccessful in applying for the provision of funding of palliative care service for the 2024/2027 financial year, the department stated only one.

Chief director of communication for the Gauteng Department of Health, Motalatale Modiba, said the care centre didn’t attach financial and governance documents as stated in the advert for the application.

He said this was needed for the application to be considered.

“NPOs need to meet governance compliance, financial compliance, and technical requirements before they can receive funding,” said Modiba.

He said all NPOs were informed during a briefing session on all the requirements of the application.

Modiba said although Edenvale Care Centre Hospice’s application was unsuccessful the centre has the opportunity to appeal.

He said it was also explained what happens if the appeal process of applications were unsuccessful.

Explaining how applications are approved, Modiba said the head of the department appoints committees to oversee the process.

“The availability of budget also determines the number of NPOs that can be funded.”

Modiba said the Gauteng Health Department has allocated a budget for NPOs.

“It cannot exceed the required number of NPOs.”
