SAPS divers recover five bodies across parts of Gauteng

Divers from the South African Police Service Gauteng Water Policing and Diving Services (WPDS) were deployed to five separate incidents in Gauteng between March 24 and 26, which resulted in the recovery of five bodies.

On the afternoon of March 24, members of Johannesburg WPDS responded to a scene in Orlando, Soweto, where a body was visibly floating in water.

Members recovered the body of an unknown male and handed the scene to detectives.

Shortly after this scene, Ekurhuleni members were called to Thembisa for the second week in a row to remove a foetus from a dam close to Kaalfontein.

This comes after members removed a foetus from the Kaalspruit River on March 19.

On March 25, Ekurhuleni officers were called to Ivory Park to help remove a body from the Kaalspruit River.

Allegedly, the victim was beaten by community members and thrown into the river the previous day.

The body was removed with help from Emergency Services and handed to the local SAPS for investigation.

On the same day, Tshwane members helped K9 Search and Rescue at an open field in Zwartkops next to Lenchen Avenue, where they recovered the body of a missing person.

The male body was recovered from a steep incline using advanced techniques.

As this scene came to an end, Ekurhuleni members were called to Rhodesfield in Kempton Park, where a body had been found in a small stream.

The body seemed to have been in the stream for a while, judging by the state of decomposition.

Inquest dockets for these cases are under investigation.
