Edenvale audiologist crowned second princess

Romanda hopes to be a beacon of inspiration to fellow South Africans.

Edenvale Regional Hospital’s clinical audiologist was crowned Miss World South Africa’s second princess.

On October 8, the hospital celebrated the return of Romanda Hombir, who recently competed in the last leg of the Miss World South Africa pageant at Sun City on October 5.

Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg was crowned Miss World South Africa while runner-up Nande Mabala claimed the position of first princess.

During her return, staff members from the hospital shared Romanda’s joy with the choir parading her outside the hospital in song.

CEO at Edenvale Regional Hospital, Dr Zakhele Zitha, expressed his joy and pride at the achievement. He joined staff members who welcomed back Romanda and presented her with a certificate of recognition for flying Edenvale’s flag high.

“Your stance on patient access to healthcare and your excellent performance at the pageant have made us proud. Thank you for flying our flag high as a hospital and for the Gauteng Department of Health,” said Zitha.

Romanda (25) from Mpumalanga, would love to influence the agenda of the World Health Organisation and the United Nations.

Her focus is on promoting the health of all people, and to influence the drafting of policies and legislation on the accessibility and quality of healthcare services for everyone, regardless of socio-economic status, age, or disability.

Romanda is currently studying for a MSc degree in audiology at UCT.

Her degree’s focus is addressing falls in older adults and promoting healthy living in alignment with the WHO goals for quality health care for all.

To commemorate Mandela Day on July 18, Romanda helped to provide food for 200 people at Edenvale Hospital and donated books, food, and snacks at Thabisong Day Care Centre in Alexandra.

Romanda has also assisted more than 60 children with free health screenings and could share stimulating exercises with the teachers.

“I hope my different engagements can reflect the work I am doing to ensure equitable access to quality health care.

Her Beauty with a Purpose project for the pageant, was Caring Purpose, a charity dedicated to eradicating health poverty and providing free accessible quality health services for those in need.

Romanda said, “I would like to be a beacon of inspiration for fellow citizens to take responsibility for our communities and not be afraid to get involved in shaping the country we would love.”

Romanda hopes to enter future pageants to help spread the word about access to quality healthcare for all.
