Memorial drive for beloved Edenvale community stalwart held
"Linda was larger than life, her passion and dedication to helping others was unrivalled."
Community members came out in their numbers when they mourned the loss of community stalwart Linda McKenzie.
According to police, McKenzie passed away at the age of 66 on the morning of October 26.
A memorial drive was held on October 27 to honour McKenzie, affectionately known as Aunty Linda to some.
The route took community members from Meadowdale Mall to McKenzie’s home on Palliser Road.
Over 170 community members attended, and the convoy was 53 vehicles long.

AfriForum’s Edenvale, Germiston, Primrose, Kempton, Klopperpark and Alberton branches attended alongside Edenvale SAPS. Bedfordview CPF, 1Track Security, Ironhide Security Services, Mamba Security and DOT Towing.
McKenzie’s family and friends also attended.
According to an Edenvale resident, Kat Stuart, they held the memorial drive to honour and celebrate McKenzie’s life.
“Linda was larger than life; her passion and dedication to helping others was unrivalled. She deserved the biggest and most meaningful send-off we could think of,” said Stuart.
She said attendees were very emotional.
Some of the 170 community members, SAPS, officers, Befordview CPF members, Afriforum and private security personnel at Meadowdale Mall.
“Linda touched the hearts of every person in attendance. Many tears were shed but I know we were all honoured to have the privilege of taking part in her send-off,” said Stuart.
She thanked Germiston AfriForum members for organising the memorial drive.
Linda’s family, Stuart and Lieutenant Colonel Lionel Chetty, delivered speeches.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Anne McKenzie said she was blown away by everyone who attended.
“I know that each of you had a special place in Linda’s heart,” she said.
A memorial service will be held for McKenzie on October 31, at 11 am at the Impact Community Church, 29 Karen Road.
