Bedfordview residents not spared from water crisis

The City of Ekurhuleni said some areas are experiencing water supply interruptions due to high water demand and low reservoir levels.

With the growing water crisis affecting various communities across Ekurhuleni, Bedfordview residents were not spared.

November 8 marked five days of residents being without water.

The City of Ekurhuleni said some areas are experiencing water supply interruptions due to high water demand and low reservoir levels.

Key locations affected include Germiston as well as Bedfordview.

According to ward councillor Jill Humphreys, the main feeder dam has run dry due to a malfunction in the pumping system, leading to widespread water rationing.

“Our main feeder dam is empty. It became empty because when they were supposed to pump water into it, there was a malfunction.

The whole Palmic system, which serves parts of Gauteng, has been affected so it is not said Humphreys.

“I have had to ask neighbours with boreholes to share water and the CPF to assist by helping transport water to the elderly and sick. We all need to help each other,” she added.

In response, the CoE placed water tankers to assist residents at Van Buuren Road.

On Friday, Humphreys shared on community groups that Rand Water was battling with @bedfordview.edenv airlocks which was significantly reducing pump capacity to local reservoirs and direct feeds.
