Melville Koppies continue to amaze with hidden gems

Outdoor enthusiasts urged to join the last group guided 8km hike taking place on November 24.

“I never expected to find a pristine indigenous reserve in the middle of Johannesburg,” said a recent German visitor to Melville Koppies.

Another family group headed off tasked with finding treasures on the Koppies one of which was to try their hand at grinding sorghum on the very old grinding stones.

They are open every Sunday morning from 08:00 to 11:30.

Visitors can choose from the self-guided options 5km trail, 3km heritage trail, and the scavenger hunt for those with exploring minds.

A family group heads off to explore the Koppies’ treasures.

They charge R90 adults, U18 – R50.

Or join the last group-guided 8km hike on November 24 set to start promptly at 08:30.

If you want to learn more about the Koppies, book a guided tour (about 3km) on 079 532 0083. R100 adults, R50 U18.

Security is provided; safe to walk alone.

Safe parking opposite the entrance to Melville Koppies at Marks Park Sports Club in Judith Road, Emmarentia.

All income is used for the maintenance of the Koppies.
