SASSA beneficiaries angered by long queues as Gold Card deadline nears
Limited seating increase discomfort for beneficiaries.
As the deadline for replacing SASSA Gold Cards with new Postbank Black Cards approaches, beneficiaries are expressing frustration and discomfort over the re-issuing process.
One of the main concerns is the lengthy queues, which have left many people waiting for hours.
Beneficiaries are complaining about standing in long lines for far too long, with some arriving as early as 8:00. and still waiting to be assisted by 13:00.

The lack of sufficient staff to assist with the re-issuing process has exacerbated the issue, leading to frustration.

Furthermore, the venues designated for card replacement, typically shopping centres, have proven to be uncomfortable for many residents, particularly the elderly.
The lack of seating and adequate facilities has added to the discomfort, making the experience even more challenging.
“I’m frustrated. They should have more options for shops and more people to assist.
“There are no chairs, and people have to stand for hours. It’s difficult, especially for the elderly and those with disabilities,” said one resident.
Another resident echoed similar sentiments, recounting the experience of a 95-year-old woman who had attempted to replace her card yesterday.
“She couldn’t stand in the queue anymore and had to go home, shaking and shivering. It’s emotionally and physically taxing.”
SASSA and Postbank have urged beneficiaries to replace their cards by the deadline of February 28, to avoid disruptions to their social grant payments.
However, the chaotic scenes at re-issuing locations have raised concerns about the ability of vulnerable residents to access these essential services.
