The deadline for SASSA beneficiaries to replace their gold cards with the new Postbank black cards has been extended to March 20, providing additional time for a smooth transition.

Ministry spokesperson Kwena Moloto confirmed the extension from February 28 to March 20.

“We have heard the concerns of our social grant beneficiaries, and we trust this extension will offer the necessary time for recipients to make the change,” he said.

Moloto encouraged beneficiaries to swap their cards well ahead of the new deadline.

He reassured that grant payments would continue as usual, even after March 20.

If beneficiaries do not exchange their cards by the deadline, they can still access their grants but will need to visit a Post Office branch.

To streamline the process, the ministry is adding more resources and partnering with retailers to increase the number of available sites.

Mobile offices will also be deployed to assist beneficiaries in rural areas.

Moloto emphasised that the department would monitor the process and provide updates to address any issues promptly.

The March 20 deadline signifies when the SASSA Gold Cards will stop functioning, not the final day to apply for a new card.

After this date, beneficiaries can still apply for and receive their Postbank Black Cards.

The ministry is collaborating with community leaders and local authorities to provide clear information and support where necessary.
