Artists invited to showcase talent in Edenvale

Community members and art lovers alike are invited to attend the Paint and Palette Group’s upcoming monthly meeting.

At the May 17 meeting, Tiens Palmer will demonstrate how to create a charcoal portrait.

At a young age Tiens discovered that he could draw and he decided to pursue a career as a graphic designer.

However, he found that raising a family and dealing with life, he didn’t get much time to paint.

At the end of 2016 he started painting seriously and began to do a great deal of commissioned work.

He subsequently became a full time artist in April 2023.

He is mostly self taught and has developed along different paths.

He paints various subjects and says the art journey is full of surprises making him always curious to learn more.

According to Tiens, there is an eternal quality about a moment in time.

He tries to capture these moments in his paintings.

Although his preferred medium is oil paint, he also works with other mediums, including charcoal, and he loves sketching people in pen and ink as well.

The demonstration will be held at Edenvale Community Centre at 13:30 for 14:00.

Entrance fee is R100 for visitors, R30 for paid members. Tea will be served during the interval.
