Memorial walk unites community at Dickie Fritz Shellhole

Young and old gathered at the Dickie Fritz Shellhole on May 3 to honour fallen heroes during the annual memorial walk, followed by a spirited potjiekos cook-off hosted by the Rhodesian Light Infantry Regimental Association.

Community members young and old showed their support when they attended the Dickie Fritz Shellhole’s annual memorial walk.

Held at the shellhole’s property on May 3, the walk, which saw smiles a-plenty, took community members around the premises.

The Rhodesian Light Infantry Regimental Association held a friendly potjiekos competition.

Speaking before the walk, the shellhole’s Sergeant Major Jorge de Jesus said the walk was one way the shellhole remembered and paid tribute to those who had died.

He said that from a veteran‘s perspective, it was a way to remember all those who never returned from conflict zones.

It also allowed friends and family to pay tribute to loved ones they might have lost.
